Overview

8connections ("the Service") is a web application, and the 8connections Connector ("the Extension") is its companion Chrome browser extension. Together, they help professional connectors discover and monetize high-value introductions within their LinkedIn network.

This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding that data.

What Data We Collect

When you use the Extension to import your LinkedIn connections, we collect the following publicly available profile information from your 1st-degree LinkedIn connections:

  • Professional identity — name, headline, profile URL, profile photo URL
  • Work history — current and past job titles, company names, employment dates
  • Education — school names, degrees, fields of study
  • Skills — listed professional skills (up to 20)
  • Location — geographic location as displayed on LinkedIn
  • Contact information — email addresses, phone numbers, and websites that the connection has made visible on their LinkedIn profile
  • Company data — company size, industry, headquarters, and founding year for current employers
  • Network signals — mutual connection count, follower count, and connection date

We also collect your own LinkedIn profile information (name, photo, headline) to identify your account within the Service.

How We Collect Data

The Extension operates by making authenticated requests to LinkedIn's API endpoints using your active LinkedIn session. This means:

  • You must be logged into LinkedIn for the Extension to function
  • The Extension only accesses data that is visible to you as a logged-in LinkedIn user
  • Data collection happens in the background through a hidden browser tab
  • Rate limiting is applied to avoid overloading LinkedIn's servers

The Extension communicates with the Conduit web application to transfer collected data for processing and storage.

Account Authentication

We offer sign-in through third-party providers to simplify account creation:

  • Google Sign-In — We request access to your basic profile information (name, email address, and profile photo) to create and identify your account. We do not access your Gmail, Google Drive, Calendar, or any other Google services beyond basic authentication.
  • LinkedIn Sign-In — We request access to your basic profile information (name, email, profile photo, headline) to create and identify your account.

Authentication data is used solely for account management and is never shared with third parties or used for marketing purposes.

How We Use Your Data

Collected connection data is used to:

  • Enrich profiles — combine LinkedIn data with additional company and role context
  • Score matches — evaluate how well your connections match the ideal customer profiles of affiliate programs you've enrolled in
  • Generate outreach messages — draft personalized introduction messages using AI, based on the connection's professional background
  • Track referrals — manage the pipeline of introductions you've made and associated commissions

We use AI language models (via OpenRouter) to generate message drafts and score connection quality. Connection data sent to AI models is used solely for generating your outputs and is not used to train models.

Data Sharing

We share limited, anonymized connection data with companies whose affiliate programs you enroll in. Specifically:

  • Companies see aggregate statistics about your network (e.g., "142 connections in SaaS, 23 at VP+ level")
  • Companies see anonymized match previews (role, industry, seniority level) but not names or identifying information
  • Full connection details are only shared when you explicitly submit a referral introduction

We do not sell your data to third parties. We do not use your data for advertising.

Data Storage and Security

  • Data is stored in a secure database associated with your Conduit account
  • The Extension stores temporary operation state locally using Chrome's storage API — this data does not leave your browser except when sent to the Conduit web application
  • All communication between the Extension and the web application occurs over HTTPS

Your Rights

You can:

  • Delete your data — request complete deletion of all your connection data and account by contacting us
  • Stop collection — uninstall the Extension at any time to stop data collection
  • View your data — all imported connections and matches are visible in your Conduit dashboard

Permissions

The Extension requests the following browser permissions:

  • activeTab — to read LinkedIn page content during extraction
  • scripting — to inject content scripts for LinkedIn API calls
  • tabs — to manage background tabs for data enrichment
  • cookies — to verify your LinkedIn login status
  • storage — to persist operation state across browser restarts
  • alarms — to maintain background processing reliability

The Extension only communicates with linkedin.com (for data collection) and 8connections.com (for syncing with the web application).

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy as we add features. Material changes will be communicated through the Service. Continued use of the Extension after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
